The picture above is very muted and greyed out compared to the original, which is presently in the ‘Becoming Van Gogh’ exhibit at the Denver Art Museum until Jan. 20, 2013. In actuality, the oranges are brilliant and visually pop out against the blue background, as an example of his use of complementary colors to intensify them. The ‘Basket of Oranges’ was one of my favorites in the whole exhibit! Go see for yourself!
