USA PRO CYCLING CHALLENGE: VOIGT IN SOLO RUN IN STAGE 4

Jens Voigt (RadioShack-Nissan-Trek) rode a solo race to claim the Stage 4 victory in Thursday’s run from Aspen to Beaver Creek in the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Voigt is the 4th stage winner in as many days and the crowd at the top of the leader list is close-packed.

Tejay van Garderen (BMC) reclaimed the Yellow Jersey from Christian Vande Velde (Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda) by position in the peloton: they remain locked for time. 2011 Challenge winner Levi Leipheimer (Pharma Omega-Quickstep) is 8 seconds back in 4th place, Stage 3 winner Tom Danielson (Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda) in 8th with a 15 second deficit. On Friday the race moves out of the high country, so anything can happen.

Voigt moved up strongly in both the Sprint and King of the Mountain classifications with his great run in Stage 4, but Danielson retains the King of the Mountain jersey.

Damiano Caruso (Liquigas-Cannondale) holds onto the Sprint jersey, followed by Stage 1 winner Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda).

Friday’s Stage 5 begins with a 10 mile climb out of Breckenridge to the top of Hoosier Pass, down through South Park and into Colorado Springs. Should be an interesting day.
