Gallery 81435 hosts an artists’ reception Thursday, August 30, 5-8pm. Come meet the artists and enjoy the last days of our August exhibit featuring texture, shape and color.

Colorful landscapes in oils by Margaret Hixon-Griffith will be featured on the walls. Margaret is a summer resident who splits her time between Houston and Telluride. Her paintings reflect a subtle sensitivity to the natural world that quietly draws the viewer into wide open, natural spaces and evokes an appreciation for place.

These images will be complemented by the exquisite ceramic sculptures of Goedele Vanhille. While the shapes of the pieces are graceful and intriguing, it is Vanhille’s glazing that finally sets each piece apart. Her electric-fired, oxidized glazes, fired at a variety of temperatures, are bright, solid, crackling exclamations that turn the poetry of each piece into epics in clay. Originally from Belgium, Goedele lives in Norwood and exhibits at the Telluride Gallery and internationally.

“Fly Away Home” is an exciting, brand new nine-foot tall mixed-media hanging sculpture about flight and freedom by Flair Robinson. Flair is a mixed media, mosaic and assemblage artist who works out of the Stronghouse Studios. Her first mixed-media hanging sculpture,”Time Machine,” hangs in the stairwell at the Wilkinson Public Library.

New, small-scale wire mesh works by Amy Boebel play with light and shadows. Constructed primarily of aluminum wire screen, their solid structure appears transparent. Because of the gossamer quality of the material, it can even be interpreted as fabric.

One-of-a-kind silk, wool and fabric scarves crafted by Lucy Boody are also featured this month.

Gallery 81435 is a project of Telluride Arts, Telluride’s community arts organization. The gallery is part of a menu of programs that supports local artists, allowing them to create and share new work.

Gallery 81435 is located across the street from Telluride Arts’ Stronghouse Studios + Gallery on South Fir Street. Regular hours are 12-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday or by appointment.
