YOUNG PEOPLE’S THEATER PRESENTS “RAGGEDY ANN & ANDY”

Friday July 27, 1 p.m., free to the public

What do you get when you mix 12 amazingly talented children, one beautiful historic theater, a classic childhood story, some great music and five days of theatrical fun? Answer: The SAF Young People’s Theater Summer Spectacular. An intensive theater experience designed to inspire and nurture young thespians, the YPT Summer Spectacular is in its second exciting year.

“Creating a musical theater piece in 5 days is challenging but really thrilling,” explains YPT Artistic Director, Jennifer Julia. “It’s a condensed version of the Young People’s Theater productions students and audience members enjoy during the school year.”

This year, the Summer Spectacular culminates in a musical version of “Raggedy Ann & Andy”, which Julia describes as “a story about toys that come to life and have adventures, the original Toy Story.”

Since 1999, the historic Sheridan Opera House has been home to Young People’s Theater, a diverse and flourishing center for young thespians, enrolling more than 200 children between the ages of 2 and 18 each year. This fall’s course description and enrollment information is now available online at sheridanoperahouse.com. Classes will include Adventures in Acting, K-2, Playbuilding Grades 3-5, “Cindy and the Saddle Shoes” grades 5-8, and “Godspell” grades 9-12.
