ALACAZEM 2012.07.05

July 5 to 12, 2012    Visible Planets: Morning: Venus and Jupiter  Evening: Mercury, Mars and Saturn

It finally rained here yesterday. The forests, fields and gardens are grateful, as am I. After weeks of cloudless skies, super-hot days and unusually warm nights, it looks like the summer monsoon season may start early this year – like just about everything else.

After a state-wide ban on private fireworks and a voluntary shutdown of most public displays, Colorado moves through the 4th of July with hope and trepidation. The devastating wildfires of High Park near Fort Collins and Waldo Canyon in Colorado Springs have heightened awareness and intensified concern in a drought year much like that of 2002, when we watched the Burn Canyon fire take off across the canyon like a pack of ravenous greyhounds chasing a rabbit. Living on the north, and ultimately safe, side of Naturita Canyon, we had a ringside seat.

This week’s July 4th issue of the Telluride Daily Planet is filled with articles about global warming, climate change, firefighters, beetle-kill and severe weather of all shapes and sizes. One headline reads: “Hot, dry, smoky and scary” and it really sums it up. After all, it’s 2012.

Last night we ate fried chicken and potato salad, danced with raindrops and flooded our lawn with irrigation water from our pond. Then we traveled to New York City and Washington D.C. to watch fireworks – virtually, of course – flipping back and forth to a show on the History Channel entitled America: The History of Us. Fascinating stuff: time travel and watching millions of dollars go up in smoke – intentionally – in honor and celebration of freedom, liberty and justice for all. And, of course, the pursuit of happiness. It’s a national holiday tradition and we are here, celebrating with our nation.

I can’t say I’m totally happy about the way things are today in America, or the world. I can say I’m incredibly lucky and blessed. Free to do as I please; laugh, love and enjoy life’s most simple pleasures. Including rain.

Now I’m looking for the rainbow…

Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Ruler Mars has just moved into your solar 7th house of partnership and marriage, so be prepared for a couple months of coupling, sharing and pairing. With master teacher Saturn already there, this is an excellent combination for building strong foundations in both new and existing relationships. Show up for others; be responsible and do it right.

Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) The Cancer sun time is perennially one of mother, home and apple pie; including the 4th of July! Whether it’s eating cherries, strawberry shortcake or root beer floats, enjoy the summer as best you can. Family get-togethers, warm nights and starry skies beckon memory and nostalgia. Cultivate beauty in simplicity and count your blessings.

Gemini (May 21-June 21) You may find yourself actively involved with family, children or loved ones as summer waxes in blasts of color and heat. The evolutionary wave of change that has been building for years crests in a crescendo of guts and glory somewhere deep within the collective consciousness. You feel it as a burst of wonder, hope and awe. Follow the good. Do what you can.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) Happy birthdays continue with sizzling days and starry nights. This is a time to shimmer and shine, dance and dazzle. Go for gusto in your customary sweet, seductive, sensual style and see what happens. Focus on positive solutions and stay actively in the present. Let go of hurts and resentments from the past; embrace freedom. Touch the earth; love the planet.

Leo (July 23-Aug.22) These times are prophetic and profound. Echoes from the 60’s rumble through present day canyons of passion and intention. As kings and queens of the zodiac, what should you do? Lead by example and rule with benevolence. Thoughts, emotions and actions resonate throughout the universe in a galactic dance of evolutionary force. Follow the signs.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) As motivator Mars bids adieu to Virgo and enters neighboring Libra this week, you may feel a blast of personal power and desire. Accepting things as they are today and taking total responsibility for the shape and condition of your life and relationships is the single most empowering thing you can do. Happy or sad, good or bad; it’s up to you!

Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) Mars, planet of action and desire, entered Libra on July 3rd and will be staying as a sometimes impatient but highly motivated guest until late August. This indicates a period to pursue goals and attack projects that need to be initiated, worked on and/or finished. Energy is high and passions are running strong. Be pro-active, positive and patient as you go.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) The recent Cancer/Capricorn full Moon illuminated issues of authority, control and dependence. Now it’s time to work on what was brought to light. Relationships are a great place to start. As Saturn moves ever closer to Scorpio, embrace the dynamics of closure, endings, death and rebirth. A major life cycle is culminating. Get in touch with spirit, rest and relax.

Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) With so much riding on the wind, you may feel helpless and insignificant, at the mercy of forces much greater than those of humankind. Embrace the grace of humility and surrender to the power and beauty of Mother Nature. Relinquish the illusions of possession and control as you dance to her creative, destructive melody of death and rebirth. Follow the stars.

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) Drives for freedom, innovation and reform propel the break from cultural conditioning and push you toward quantum leap. Pluto in Capricorn has forced facing the proverbial shadow in a process of bringing dark to light. Personal power is at issue; this time it’s all about the true, authentic power within. Let go of the façade, illuminate spirit and go forth with grace.

Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Last week, ruling planet Uranus in fiery Aries square transformational Pluto in earthy Capricorn enflamed actual and metaphorical houses in the ‘hood and around the world. In the spirit of death and rebirth, you understand the imperative of change and are willing to ride the wave. As you carry the flag of the Aquarian Age, proceed with courage and go with the flow.

Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) What to say to the most spiritually evolved sign of the tropical zodiac in these apocalyptic times? Are you living your essence, cultivating true compassion and loving-kindness or engaging in battles of self-will, self-defense and self-ego? What about fear? Neptune and Chiron in Pisces demand surrender to a holy mission, higher power or calling. How about now?
