09 Feb TWO SKIRTS’ FASHION FRIDAY: “FLING” THING
Two Skirts‘ Fashion Friday is a weekly feature that focuses on international fashion trends as reflected on a local level in Telluride, and on important emerging and established designers. This week’s blog, however, is an exception to the rule. This week, Kristin Holbrook of Two Skirts puts aside her regular advice on fabbie threads to support of a local cause.
Saturday, February 11, 2012, 7:30 – 11:30, Telluride Conference Center, Mountain Village, is the San Miguel Resource Center‘s only major public fundraiser: the Chocolate Lovers’ Fling, a night of dancing, silent auction, and cash prizes. The centerpiece of the event is a decadent chocolate buffet prepared by 15 regional chefs. We suggest reading “Related Posts” to find out more about the SMRC and the buffet, but in brief, the nonprofit is the region’s only institution that supports victims of interpersonal violence. The Fling is held close to Valentine’s Day because the goal of the SMRC is to promote vibrant and healthy relationships, with oneself and with others, like those celebrated at the holiday.
“We’re dedicating Fashion Friday to the SMRC Chocolate Lovers’ Fling because fashion is about looking good AND feeling good.” explains Kristin.”There are women out there who are in unfortunate situations and not feeling good at this special time of year. I want to think of them this weekend and support the cause that supports them.”
The theme of this year’s Fling is “TV Land,” which means everyone is encouraged to come not as you are but as your favorite boob tube incarnation.
“Please come dressed up as any TV personality or character,” said Melanie Montoya, co-executive director of the SMRC. “That includes stars from days of yore such as the cast of ‘I Love Lucy,’ to cartoon ‘people’ like ‘The Smurfs,’ to the ladies from our favorite prime-time shows such as ‘Charlie’s Angels.’ And don’t forget the great characters who populate reality TV on shows like the Kardashians, ‘Dirty Jobs,’ and ‘America’s Next Top Model.’ Game show hosts and contestants are also fair game. If you look around and spot Vanna White, that will be me.”
To plant a few ideas about what to wear, Kristin put together some fabulous outfits and recruited models from among her equally fabulous friends to drive the point home. The ladies, in costume, are featured in Clint Viebrock’s video in the following order: Anne Curry of “The Today Show,” the Bachelorlette at the rose ceremony, Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girl, Carrie Bradshaw of “Sex and the City,” Heidi Klum of “Project Runway,” Kim Kardashian of “Kourtney and Kim Take New York,” Laura Ingalls of “Little House on the Prairie,” Marianne of “Gilligan’s Island,” Rachael Ray, chef, and Rachel Zoe of “The Rachel Zoe Project.” Check out the result of Kristin and Clint’s collaboration below:
