12 Dec ARTS & ENVIRONMENT: TNCC, STEAMING BEAN LAUNCH NEW PROGRAM
The first “Local Libations” program, a collaboration between The New Community Coalition and Telluride’s Steaming Bean, takes place December 15, 2011 at 5:30 PM at the Bean. The “semi-regular” series will provide opportunities to gather, learn and discuss topics of the day. This first event will explore the interaction between environmental sustainability and the arts, particularly performance arts.
Lyndia McGauhey will lead this discussion on a variety of related subjects: How young artists are integrating art with environmental and social justice topics; Sustainability in art; The EcoArts movement; How sustainability influences artistic decisions today.
McGauhey, a Telluride native, recently earned a BFA degree in Dance and a BA in Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado. In the interest of full disclosure, my relationship with Lyndia goes back years: her mother Colleen Trout, TNCC’s Education/Volunteer Coordinator, was the head of Telluride Adaptive Sports Program when I started volunteering there 12 years ago. In addition, I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Lyndia on Telluride theatre productions. I predict this “Local Libations” will be an interesting program.
