13 Oct The 411 on Fashion’s 303
by Tracy Shaffer
Enough of the protest and politics, this weekend I want to occupy some frothy fun! What better place to let one’s hair down than the 2nd Annual Denver Fashion Weekend and 5th Annual Hair Show? 303 Magazine and Schomp Automotive are the presenting sponsors for this three- night extravaganza benefitting Dress for Success Denver. It’s always a kick in the wide-leg pants to see what the local fashionistas are up to, and the 2011 collection of collections is sure to be a round-house.
The runway heats up on Thursday night as personal stylist, Candice Goins launches her private shopping boutique, Candies Closet. Models will stop, turn and pout wearing current and vintage pieces by the fashionably fabulous one-name types including McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Halston, Versace, and Wang. Hair by Scarlet Salon, make-up by Jade from Gordon’s on Sixth, produced by the renowned Autumn Binion and Au79 Productions.
Friday keeps the fire going as five of Denver’s favorite boutiques bring forth fifteen looks. A.Line Boutique, Barbara & Co, Goldyn, PJ’s Boutique and Sous le Lit show off snappy threads from Bailey 44, BB Dakots, Blanque Label, Dear Dorothy, and Helmut Lang as they piece together the latest looks for fall. And the best part… you can actually find them, buy them and wear them once the weekend of ooohs and ahhhs are over. Hair by the Blowdry Lounge, nails courtesy of Tootsies and make-up by 303 Mag’s beauty editor/celebrity make-up artist, Katelyn Simkins, who also produces the Friday fete.
Saturday night is the big tease with cutting-edge creatives competitively coiffing, cuz hey… that’s how they (hot ) roll. Okay, so you might be asking yourself, “What’s a hair show?” The same crossed my mind so I posed the question to stylist extraordinaire and Salon Posh owner, Lisa Stelzig Holste. “A hair show is about the art. You’ll be amazed by what you see when a talented stylist is given the opportunity to unleash the artist. Hair is the fabric, the material we work with, and we create some amazing fantasies with it. I guarantee the stylists at the hair show will blow your mind with their creativity.” Wow! My idea of a hair fantasy is fresh highlights and some volume. Stylist/artists from Salon Posh, ADC Creative Team, Asteria Salon, Berenices, Juno, The Parlour, Planet Labs and Floyd’s 99 Barbershop will seek to amaze.
All the festivities take place from 8-11pm at EXDO Event Center, 1399 35th Street, with a full cash bar and “official” after-parties at Lodo’s JET Hotel. For tickets visit www.303magazine.com
