03 Sep Sky At a Glance: The Scorpion & Archer
For those of you interested in identifying the constellations of Scorpius and Sagittarius in the night sky, the evenings of Sept. 3rd to 5th offer great opportunities to do so. Watch the waxing Moon hug the head of the Scorpion on the 3rd, move toward its center – near the bright, reddish-orange heart-star Antares – on the 4th, and then kiss the west end of the Sagittarian Archer on the 5th. This location is very close to the Milky Way's Galactic Center – the point with which the Winter Solstice Sun will align on Dec. 21, 2012 – so keep your eyes to the skies, and be sure to be on tap for any and all cosmic messages which might be emanating through the gap!
Happy Stargazing!
