The fun and exciting 31st annual Telluride Shroomfest just ended, but when the subject is mycelium and their fabulous fruit, mushrooms, if you, like me, are one of the those Telluriders who can’t get enough of that crazy stuff, then you will not want to miss this upcoming course at the Ah Haa School for the Arts.
“The Art of Mushrooms,” Thursday, August 25, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and then 5 – 8 p.m., features Telluride shroommeister, John Sir Jesse, who leads students in a combination picking and cooking class. If you can’t make that one, there is another Wild Mushroom Foraging next Tuesday, August 30, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Converts all know edible fungi taste wonderful, but what if you can’t tell the difference between edible and a really bad stomach ache (or worse)? Go ask Alice? Not so much. Your best bet in the Telluride region is John Sir Jesse of Herb Walker Tours. John is a certified mushroom inspector and has been a foray leader for the Telluride Shroomfest since 1980.
For more from John, click the play button and listen to his interview with Ah Haa’s Lauren Metzger. Oh and, on the appointed day, show up at Ah Haa wearing hiking shoes and be prepared for weather. Bring paper or cloth bags, snacks, water and your favorite beverage for the evening.
