Ron Allred inducted into Colorado Ski/Snowboard Hall of Fame

Joyce and Ron Allred The Telluride Foundation honors one its founders, Ron Allred, with a party Thursday evening at the historic Sheridan Opera House. The event begins at 5:OOish. Ron's presentation is at 6 p.m. The general public is welcome.

Now what's all the fuss about? In May, the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame announced its 2011 inductees, five in all, one of whom is Ron. Ron joins an elite fraternity of 184 Hall of Fame snow sports visionaries, each of whom has made significant contributions to the Colorado ski industry. For the record, the voting committee consists of 140 Hall of Fame members, museum/Hall of Fane board and advisors, and one executive from each of Colorado's 26 ski areas.

As the name implies, the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame was created to honor “Coloradoans”. Nominees must have contributed significantly to the sport and industry of skiing and snowboarding in the State of Colorado as an Athlete, Sport Builder, Inspiration or Pioneer.  Although an individual may have done much on the national or international levels of skiing, the mere fact that he or she chooses to live in the state is not a sufficient qualification. The accomplishments of the individual must have had a direct benefit to Colorado, whether through competition, by encouraging growth of the sport in the State or by exporting ideas, talent, techniques or products developed within the state that went on to have national or international significance. The direct result will be that of enhancing the image of Colorado as a source of skiing and snowboarding innovation.

Here's how the Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame website summed up Ron.

"Ron Allred: Sport Builder. Telluride collapsed in 1978 when the 100 year old mining industry closed its doors. Literally, the next day, Ron Allred started an effort to create a new economy based on Telluride becoming a year round mountain resort community. Ron was only one of the leaders of that effort. The company that Ron headed built a new ski mountain, golf course, airport, retail, master developer of the Mountain Village, and a unique gondola transportation system to connect the Old Town and the new Mountain Village. This effort has taken thirty-three years so far, and the energies of the entire community."

You go guy. Congratulations from your community, Telluride and Mountain Village.
