August 25 to September 1, 2011   Visible Planets: Morning: Mars and Jupiter  Evening: Saturn

“This month’s New Moon shifts attention from the creative fires of Leo to the earthy pragmatism of Virgo. The last Full Moon urged us to follow our heart and soul; this New Moon calls us to use our head and hands.”       Stephanie Austin, The Mountain Astrologer, Aug/Sep Issue

Zinnia The Virgo dilemma: Perfection is an ideal, rather than a reality. And practice is a means of manifesting dreams, visions and ideals. Is perfection thus an attainable goal via practice?

Virgo is all about work and service, health and healing. Its function is to make the self and the world we live in better – moment-by-moment, day by day – by living a life of attention, sacrifice and humility. Order and organization, efficiency and productivity are avenues of progress in the Virgo journey; integrity, right action, virtue and purity are companions on the trail.

Tomatoes Back to school themes – supplies, clothes and books, schedules and daily routines, classrooms, learning, teachers, credits and merits – along with the bountiful season of harvest color the Virgo zodiac month with shades of gold and green, red, purple and peach. We hearken upon the last weeks of summer and feel the poignant pull of autumn. Nights cool and days grow shorter. In the high country, leaves are starting to fall. In the lowlands, fruits and vegetables ripen, farmers cut hay and markets abound with the produce from days, weeks and months of hard work, cultivation and care. It’s time for canning and drying, freezing and storing; making lists, discerning priorities and taking inventories.

As the Virgo New Moon of August 28th approaches, find the time to self-center and examine how you feel about your life and yourself. Focus on a healthy sense of self-worth and recognize the power of compassion. The more tolerant and understanding we are of ourselves, the more forgiving and tolerant we can be of others. Good self-esteem is the golden key to happiness and well being, and doing things that make us feel good about ourselves builds self-esteem. Virtue is its own reward and purification is a process. And in regard to the Virgo dilemma, remember that realistically – forever, now and always – it’s ultimately all about progress, not perfection.

Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) This week’s new Moon shifts the focus from Leo sentiment to Virgo pragmatism. Analysis, efficiency and service are allies as you take a more practical and less emotional approach to life. Cultivate humility, integrity and impeccability as you go about your daily round. Anger, arrogance and self-pity lead to resentment and self-defeat – don’t eat poison.

Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) Simply being who you are, living your personal truth and walking your talk are ways in which to harmonically ride the evolutionary tides of the cosmos this week. Tap into your heart, feel its power and follow its wisdom. Cultivate a healthy sense of self-worth, rather than an out-of-balance, inflated ego. Remember the power of compassion and be cool.

Gemini (May 21-June 21) The Virgo new Moon and fresh zodiac month call the Twins to action regarding personal self, home and family. Take a stroll down memory lane, revisit childhood haunts – either physically or mentally – and feel the feelings of youth. The more tolerant and understanding you are of yourself, the more forgiving and accepting you can be of others.

Cancer (June 21-July 22) Anxiety, guilt and self-doubt have no good place in the week’s mix of energies. If you happen to be experiencing a negative charge emotionally, step back and consider how you may be manufacturing your own misery. Acceptance and compassionate action are powerful tools in anyone’s spiritual toolbox. Pick them up and use them according to need.

Leo (July 23-Aug.22) The solar shift from Leo to Virgo encourages less ego and more humility, acceptance instead of control and faith in place of fear. Personal responsibility and the practice of self-improvement work wonders. Modern miracles are everywhere, believing is seeing. Mercury in Leo gives you a chance to examine internal dialogues. Change what needs to be changed.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) A fresh lunar cycle in your sign heralds an annual cycle of personal emotional and spiritual rebirth. Embrace the cosmos in a celebration of love and life. Gratitude for what you have – and what you don’t have! – is huge. Examine potential patterns of self-pity, self-doubt and self-destruction. Ask for guidance, strength and courage as you let go and let God.

Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) As the Sun and Moon conjoin in your solar 12th house of dissolution, mergence and transcendence, practice the art of surrender. Notice how resistance impedes the flow of life and stops spiritual growth. Is fear the ground upon which you are birthing to demons? Trust and faith manifest via truth and honesty. Open to the joy of spirit and live in the light.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) A fresh new Moon in earthy Virgo supports your highest hopes and dreams. Imagine the world and people as you wish them to be and then go about living and becoming your ideal. Be the change you want to see in others and explore the magic of manifestation. Forgiveness is the golden key to health and happiness. Practice the art and experience progress.

Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) You may feel as if you have to perform or be on stage publicly for some reason or another. Release the stress and anxiety that comes from assumption and projection. Live expressly in the now, embrace the day and focus on the present moment. Take the high road whenever you have the opportunity. It leads in the right direction, plus the view is superb.

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) The rustling of autumn comes with the first golden leaves and auburn fields. Nights are cooling and a touch of change is in the air. The slant and intensity of solar rays stimulates instinctive seasonal behaviors. You are a living, breathing part of the cosmic heart and soul, feel the power and explore the territory. Reach for the stars, travel the galaxy and enjoy the ride.

Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) Feelings of disconnect or disharmony may have you wondering if you’re going in the right direction. The medicine for confusion or anxiety is love and laughter, trust and faith. Do what you can to banish doubt, disorder and fear as you follow your heart and open to expanding possibilities. Proofread contracts and make sure they are correct before signing.

Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) The Sun’s entrance in to Virgo marks the second half of your solar year and a time when the focus changes from self to others. You may feel like getting out and about, connecting with people you find attractive or actually considering a more serious commitment i
n a relationship. Whatever the manifestation, open your mind and heart to the world.
