21 Jul Telluride's KOTO forced to cancel Maceo Parker concert at Palm tomorrow
The concert, a co-production between Telluride's KOTOfm community radio and the Michael D. Palm Theatre, would have been memorable. The legendary saxophonist Maceo Parker was the headliner.
Note, the operative phrase is "would have." A telephone call to Jumpin' Janice Zink prompted a note Telluride Inside… and Out received this morning.
"KOTO and The Palm regretfully announce that, due to health reasons, Maceo Parker had to cancel his July 22nd concert at The Palm. You may get a refund at the outlet where you purchased your ticket."
About four years ago, when Maceo was on the program for the 31st annual Telluride Jazz Celebration (the 35th comes (August 5 – August 7) we had the privilege of interview him. Asked to define his funky music he said, and I quote:
"Ah ee ah ah de de ah eee ah ah ah ah. When it is funky, something is going to want to move. My kind of music is like New Year’s Eve or a birthday party or ‘We won the game.’ You know, how you feel when you celebrate. Funk music tells you it’s time to forget about politics and religion. None of ‘The car needs new tires.’ Get your partying on.”
Not this time. Here's wishing Maceo a speedy recovery.
