2012 Mayan End Times: Hubris or Humility?
I’ve been thinking about 2012. It’s loaded, it’s wild, it’s awesome to know that there’s a collective force at work – the collective consciousness of an ancient prophecy coming to fruition – the long awaited Mayan end times.
I remember back to one day in the '90s – before the millennium turn and the predicted chaos of Y2K – when I was driving out of Telluride toward Lawson Hill with one of my editors. We were talking about how time seemed to have speeded up, how it felt as if the pavement beneath us was moving at a velocity much faster than the car traveling upon it. It was a kind of gravity free, out-of-body sensation, like flying through space at warp speed, meteors and galaxies whizzing by.
And now, all in a wink, it’s 2011. Winter solstice – December 21, 2012 – is fast approaching. Movies, books, articles and Internet posts abound. Media groups and networks cover actual and virtual manifestations of global climate change, social upheaval, religious wars, violence and cataclysm in general. Armageddon is no longer just a biblical term, it’s a household word. Day by day, we live and breathe, think and feel. We are humans upon this planet Earth. Reality is transforming, morphing metaphysically. Definitions of time and space shape-shift through galactic gateways, explode in quantum particles and reform in an infinite eternity of shimmering possibilities and potential. It’s mystery, magic and magnificence at its quintessential best.
To grasp the moment, seize the day and live in the now of these very exciting – and at times unsettling – times, we ride invisible waves, embrace changing tides and surf the cusps of the ages. It’s all about true love and strength of heart – Leo the Lion’s pride and glory. It takes tremendous courage and a wildly willing spirit to accept our ultimate powerlessness over the universal, cosmic forces at work on our earth and all life upon it. And this is what the Mayan end times are all about – human hubris and/or humility – which one shall it be?
Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19) Voluptuous Venus enters fiery Leo and your solar 5th house of fun and romance this week, fueling the heart with passion and desire. Artistic, creative projects and expressions of love are excellent ways to harmonize with the sweet excitement of this mid-summer magic. Enjoy the beauty and blessings of life as you embrace it.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20) The Leo new Moon initiates a lunar month of attention and concern regarding home and family. Childhood memories and feelings dance on the stage of life today in a play of emotion and insight. Tap into heart and spirit, forgive yourself and others for past pain and transgressions as you nurture goodness, love, peace and joy.
Gemini (May 21-June 21) Motivator Mars marches through the late degrees of Gemini, polishing off a seven-week period of heightened self-awareness, intense personal agendas and battles of self-will. Learning the difference between a healthy and unhealthy ego is what it’s all about. Anger is not your ally, calm the waters and set sail upon the shining sea.
Cancer (June 21-July 22) The staggering rate of change and apparent chaos upon the planet can feel upsetting and unsettling to even the most enlightened Moonchildren. Safety and security are your champions, but fear and anxiety are not. Discover and cultivate a deep sense of faith via acceptance and gratitude. Focus on what’s good about now and live free.
Leo (July 23-Aug.22) The Leo New Moon activates a new cycle at a new level of creation – for both yourself and the world. You are the artist and architect of your own personal structures and realities, but what you create has a powerful effect on planet Earth and all life upon it. Understand this powerful truth and create with heart and health.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22) Each day, each moment, each situation is an open page, an empty canvas, an unborn creation. As a living, breathing artist on planet Earth, it’s time to paint your opus Magnus. Tap in to the numinous, spiritual realms of divine guidance and grace. Feel the warp and weave of forces greater than yourself and surrender to a higher power. Go with the flow, ride the tide.
Libra (Sep. 23-Oct. 22) A volatile square between revolutionary Uranus and obsessive Pluto in cardinal signs pressures calm and peaceful Librans to face challenging issues home and family. Relationships amongst siblings and children or matters of authority and control play out in a dance of leadership and enlightenment. Maintain a cool head and open heart.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) Scorpio’s ancient ruler Mars moves into a place of influence and force this week. A Galactic Center opposition followed by a cardinal cross square accelerates an already speedy pace regarding personal relationships and the part you play in all of them. Rise above the hubbub and tap into higher self being, seeing and doing. Good luck!
Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20) One-to-one relationships ignite with flames of inspiration and enthusiasm as you see the purpose behind the position and lesson behind the learning. Examine internal dialogues, mental processes and perceptual practices. Do you always see yourself being right? Recognize the destruction of self-righteous anger and let it go.
Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19) The illusion-shattering square of truth-at-all-costs Uranus in self-serving Aries and obsessive-compulsive Pluto in controlling Capricorn promises metamorphic exposition regarding hidden agendas and abuse of power issues. Compassionate self-examination, self-review and self-responsibility is imperative now. Do the work!
Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) A fresh new Moon in your solar 7th house of long term commitment favors fresh starts in your most important one-to-one relationships. Marriage, partnership, sharing and pairing are themes as you move through the next several weeks. Show up for others, be considerate and responsible for your actions and behaviors. The rest is easy.
Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) What a great time to initiate programs of self-betterment! Lunar light shimmers upon those who follow a path of
personal responsibility and general humility. Focus attention and effort on what you can do to improve yourself rather than critiquing and criticizing others. Identify your part and let others take care of theirs.
