Activities_8778 No blarney. For family entertainment at its finest, on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17, the Roxbury Latin Glee Club is scheduled to perform in concert at Telluride’s historic Sheridan Opera House. Show time is 7 p.m. Doors @ 6:30 p.m.

Way before Fox’s award-winning “Glee,” there was the Roxbury Glee Club. Founded in 1645, Roxbury Latin is the oldest school in continuous existence in North America. The Roxbury Latin Glee Club and the larger Chorus are open by audition to boys in grades 9-12. The group’s repertoire includes a diverse selection of sacred music, folk songs, musical theater pieces, and traditional songs for men’s chorus. Each year the Glee Club collaborates with a local girls’ school to perform a major choral work; in recent years, such performances have included Beethoven’s Mass in C, Fauré’s Requiem, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass. The Glee Club also makes a spring concert tour (over the past three years to Ohio, Tennessee, and Central Europe). This month, 46 boys tour Colorado with the Glee Club, with this scheduled stop in Telluride.

Roxbury’s director of music is Rob Opdycke, a Harvard grad, who sang in his alma mater’s Glee Club and was a student of choral conducting. He was also music director of the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones a capella group. Rob went straight from graduation in 1999 to his current position at Roxbury.
