02 Feb Your Ah Haa Moment: Bruce Gomez, Winter Landscape Painting
Artist Bruce Gomez has a Denver primary address, but his second home is Telluride, where the pastelist was among the very first artists Will and Hilary Thompson signed for their stable when they opened the brand new Telluride Gallery of Fine Art on Main Street 26 years ago in 1985.
Gomez is a realist, but the abstract passages in his work – parts of the sky, sections of mountains and water – are breathtakingly beautiful, with a layered Abstract Expressionist feel.
The artist, an unapologetic sensualist, uses sandpaper on his cold-pressed watercolor paper to create a shimmering velour effect on canvas, a technique he invented.
If you've admired Gomez's work or simply want to learn how to work the medium of pastel to produce your own masterpieces of the masterpiece known as "Telluride," Gomez teaches a three-day intensive at the Ah Haa School for the Arts. Classes are Friday – Sunday, February 18 – February 20. All levels welcome.
