kicker: The Telluride Historical Museum aims to collect reviews and $5,000 for programs and exhibits.

Tick tock. Tick tock. We’re  halfway through the deadline.

Here’s the big idea:  The Telluride Historical Museum has an opportunity to win $5,000. But it is going to need your help. And fast.

Starting February 1, the Telluride Museum began competing with non-profits all over the country for prize money awarded to the organization that garners the most reviews throughout the month.

$5,000 would go along way towards supporting the Museum’s mission: preserve the rich, colorful and diverse history of the region and to bring history to life through exhibits, programs and education.

Specifically, the Museum would use the cash to bring in special guest speakers, bus kids from the West End, or secure funding for the new outdoor mining exhibit and educational area scheduled to open this summer.

“We can do great things with the money,” said Lauren Bloemsma, Executive Director.

GuideStar USA, Inc., the leading source of nonprofit information, and KIMBIA, a group that empowers nonprofits and other organizations to increase giving, are sponsoring the contest through their Winter 2011 GuideStar-KIMBIA Nonprofit Giveaway.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have a passionate and committed constituency. If every supporter would take the time to write a review, we know we could be a contender for the GuideStar-KIMBIA Nonprofit Giveaway,” added Bloesmsma.

In addition to helping the Museum win the contest, Bloemsma stresses that reviews show donors and other stakeholders the Museum is making an impact on the Telluride community.

“We’re hoping to learn from our supporters what we’re doing right and what we can do better.”

Anyone with firsthand knowledge about the Telluride Historical Museum who is not a paid employee, donor, volunteer, board member, or recipient of its services-can write a review about the museum on GuideStar.

Reviews should appear in the Museum’s profile on both GuideStar and GreatNonProfits, GuideStar’s partner, which facilitates the writing and posting of any submissions.

There is no charge for writing a review, however, supporters are limited to posting one review per participating non-profit.
