25 Nov Telluride: The Mountain is Open!
Telluride, Thanksgiving Day, 2010
There was a line to pick up my season's pass, and I spent some time filling out the paper work for one more season instructing for the Telluride Adaptive Sports Program (my 12th year). There isn't much terrain open yet, and the snow guns are at work building a base on several of the runs on Lift 4, but it felt good to carve some turns down Village Bypass. And to look up to the great steeps higher on the mountain. One more Winter begins at Telluride.
It was a happy crowd of locals and visitors waiting as much as 45 seconds for the ride up Lift 4; others were enjoying the perfect ice on the rink outside the Capella Hotel.
The quartet on one chair to the top talked of previous years of powder and shortages, and one of our group of strangers said it didn't matter: we were engaging our passion and the day was beautiful. I could only agree. It was a great day to be in Telluride, in the mountains.
