01 Oct Dog's Best Friend: How will your dog live?
This week's video from Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel gives us a view of some of the criteria we should use in selecting a dog.
You are thinking about getting a puppy. Have you thought about what that puppy's job is going to be? Ted gives us some ideas to consider. Even being a companion is a job, and all of us, dogs included, need a job. Thinking about what that job will be will aid in selecting an appropriate breed. Herding dogs are not going to be easy to get along with if the owner's idea of a good time is sitting on the couch watching TV. Is hunting your passion? Breeds with hunting skills would certainly be a place to start. Thinking of a St. Bernard as a lap dog probably wouldn't be a good idea. Ted illustrates the concept in this video with a wide range of dog breeds.
