Erik Dalton, owner of Jagged Edge, grew up in the Telluride region. It’s fair to say he is a mountain man with (please forgive the expression) a leg up: owning a store that caters to outdoor adventurers, he not only knows the terrain, he knows what equipment is needed to be comfortable at altitude in this terrain. The following is his short list:

Day pack that can be worn comfortably all day long

At least 3 litres of water

Raincoat, sunhat, sunscreen, chapstick

Extra warm layer to keep in backpack

Current map and guide book

Food and snacks

Whistle ( good if you get lost and for bears!)

Sturdy hiking shoes or boots

No cotton clothing!

Collapsable dog bowl and dog treats if you’re bringing a four legged friend.

Dalton has another, much shorter list. He has selected three hikes among the hundreds possible in the Telluride region as Fall classics: Sneffels High Line, Hope Lake, and the Wasatch Trail. Over the next three days, Dalton talks about why he loves each of these trails, illustrating each ode with unforgettable images.

By way of introduction, listen to Dalton’s interview.
