17 Sep Telluride Blues & Brews, 2010.09.16
Having the great good fortune to be asked by TIO CEOs Susan and Clint Viebrock to cover this year’s Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, I decided to start with the kickoff event on Thursday – a Sunset Blues Concert at the Mountain Village Plaza, “featuring British blues guitarist Matt Schofield and the Gold Kings.”Little did I know that the Gold Kings was a band of “brothers” – Telluride locals Stevie “His Majesty the King” Green, Sean McNamara and Mark Frankman, Sven Scanlon from Ridgway and Steve Scalin from Dublin, Ireland. Wow! They sounded great!
After their set, Matt Schofield took the stage and blew the crowd away with his mean guitar work and downhome bluesy style. Identified as one of the top 12 blues guitarists in the world, and living up to his billing, he did not disappoint. With awesome Indian Summer weather and the family style crowd the Mountain Village Sunset Concerts have become famous for, all of us left for home happy and hungry for more.
