Postcard Fruits and veggies are seasonal. AIDS tends to ignore changes in the weather.

The Telluride AIDS Benefit, the crown jewel of Telluride’s winter cultural calendar, hosts its first ever summer fundraiser. Intoxicating Cuisine with returning TV host/author/entrepreneur Steve Spitz takes place Friday, August 13, 5 – 8 p.m., 602 West Columbia. The event pairs great wines with tapas prepared by Spitz to honor the flavors and ingredients from every continent on the globe.

Steve_small On the subject of wine and food pairing, Spitz’s philosophy can be summed up in two words straight out of the Cole Porter playbook: “Anything Goes.” As the descendant of a long line of winemakers also involved in the food industry, he comes by his insouciance naturally.

“My great grandfather owned a winery in the Alsace region of France. Spitz & Fils operates to this day. My father has always been into a number of other businesses too – tobacco, candy, breeding racehorses, gas stations/convenience stores, and meat-packing. He also owned a number of restaurants and bars. I have been around food and wine in some form my whole life and have cooked since I was a boy.”

Intoxicating Cuisine also includes a small silent auction with specialty bottles of wine, a Parisian condo for Christmas and dog training with Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch & Kennel.
