06 Aug Telluride Academy celebrates 30 years at the Sheridan Opera House
Thursday night, August 5, 2010, the Sheridan Opera House was the scene for a real Telluride event: a party celebrating thirty years of the Telluride Academy. The cocktail hour before the "Follies" was a roar of friends greeting friends, and the show upstairs later honored (or roasted) Academy figures, such as founder Wendy Brooks and prop-meister Mike Stasiuk. MCs Jeb Berrier and Ashley Boling absolutely personified Mudd Butts mainstays Kim Epifano and Sally Davis.
It was a fun night with clever writing, some great performances, and a salute to a Telluride institution. The live auction was spirited and fun. Auctioneers Ashley Boling and Rosie Cusack kept it tight and still managed to squeeze out those critical final dollars.
Happy Birthday, Telluride Academy. Congratulations, Wendy Brooks: your baby is all grown up. And kudos to the Academy board, friends, and staff: you put on a great evening.
