Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel is our go-to guy when Telluride Inside… and Out has a question about dog training.

This week’s video features four dogs, of various ages and states of training, in an off-leash session. The interesting thing for me is to see the enthusiasm of all the dogs in play mode, and then to see them immediately settle down for the work part of the session. Even little Drake, barely out of puppyhood, knows when the playtime is temporarily over and it’s time to go to work.

Using the older, better trained dogs to pattern the desired behavior is a trademark of the way Ted teaches. Drake and Mae have good role models.
