“In Telluride, summer begins and ends on the 4th of July…”

Flag4thTel When I first moved to Telluride, back in the late ‘70’s, there were two sets of elderly twin sisters – the Wunderlichs and the Rinquists – that represented summer in the San Juans as the shortest season of the year. The verdant aspen, the lush green valley floor, the stunning waterfalls and magnificent wildflowers painted a canvas of captivating, but fleeting, beauty. The black and white valley cows grazed peacefully against the backdrop of Ingram Falls, the town was small and quiet, hard-to-get-to and relatively unknown. The biggest event of summer came on the 4th of July, when the town ignited with flags, parades and games of sport. Native American Ute Indians came up to join in the festivities, the volunteer fire department cooked up a barbeque feast in town park and, when darkness came, deafening blasts and sizzling fireworks rocked the raucous crowd with ooohs and aahhs, whistles and wows.

Jul4th Today, the setting is much the same. Thanks to Mother Nature, the luscious greens and gushing waterfalls continue to enthrall and entice, soothe and seduce us. We have prairie dogs instead of cattle and the town has grown in size and scope – along with the parade, barbeque and fireworks – but the down home feel and mountain magic remains. It’s something that those who have the great good fortune to be here will never forget.

And, no matter where you are on this national holiday, summer is in full force. Our short mountain summers and the long, hot summers of the lowlands honor the Mom, home and apple pie energy of Cancer, the sign of nurturing and comfort, safety and security. As we celebrate the glory of the red, white and blue, we are united as a family – the family of Americans – proud, courageous and free.

May your day be one of glory, freedom, joy and love. Happy Independence Day!

Aries (Mar. 20-Apr.19)
The summer eclipse window opens to breezes of change and adjustment as you process the events, experiences and emotions of the previous week. The waning Moon favors a kind and gentle personal inventory, calm acceptance and fortitude in the face of challenge.  Look for the mystical and divine at work in your life and connect through prayer.

Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)
The 4th of July is forever a time of nostalgic remembrance and loving intentions for the Bull. Do your best to make this week one of inner peace and outer acceptance. Eclipse energy encourages themes of nurturing, kindness and compassion. Be a loving parent or child, treat yourself to a family tradition and express to others the gratitude in your heart.

Gemini (May 21-June 21)
Independence and freedom are themes this week, but underneath the fireworks and festivities, a loving heart and an inner child need hugs, attention and nurturing. Treat yourself like you’d like others to treat you and simply recognize the basic goodness inherent in all life.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
The recent full Moon lunar eclipse in the Cancer/Capricorn polarity functioned as a brilliant light of awareness and awakening regarding your personal role and responsibility in your most important relationships. Issues of control, authority and leadership must be tempered with loving kindness and compassion. Focus on good health – body, mind and spirit.

Leo (July 23-Aug.22)
You may find yourself thinking about or reliving the past, feeling connections to those who’ve passed on or simply indulging in nostalgic longing. Recognize the poignant beauty of remembrance, but embrace the present and seize the day. Life is for the living and the time is now. Eclipse energy encourages a new spiritual life. Discover a path of heart.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22)
Guardian spirits and angelic presence surround you now. Look for signs from Mother Nature, unusual circumstance, vivid dreams and intuitive feelings. Friends and fellowships encourage and assist progress this week. Stay on the path and keep your heart and mind open to the process and power of spirit. Stay calm, breathe deep and do the next right thing.

Libra (Sep. 23-Oct.22)
Assumptions and speculations do not take care of business today. Stay in the present and work on what’s right in front of you, one day at a time. Glimmering horizons loom as career goals and achievement desires continue the process of transformation and metamorphosis. Identify intentions and desires, then let the universe provide and manifest.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
The summer eclipse cycle is one of great opportunity regarding enlightened change. How healthy are you spiritually? Most physical and emotional problems are rooted in spirit. You may want money or power, fame, success, sex and romance or passionate intimacy, but to experience them, you must first be spiritually fit. Focus on spiritual self-nurturing.

Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 20)
Feeling slightly out-of-synch with the universe or simply not willing to go with the flow? Focus on the power of choice and do the best you can to make the right ones. Feel your heart and follow its wisdom. Consider the people and places with which you partner, invest and share intimacy. Examine motives and be willing to amend behaviors. Stay open to change.

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19)
Major change and awakening is par for the course as rather radical events and experiences demand attention and time. Accept responsibility for your part as you encourage others to do the same. Each of us walk a different road, we cannot save or rescue anyone. Love, honesty and compassion are allies. Remain calm, do what you can and then let go.

Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18)
We can’t control the weather, Mother Nature or other people – no matter how hard we try. Solutions come via calm acceptance and doing what we can to take good care of ourselves and our own back yards. Telling others how to fix or run their lives, giving advice or attempting to rescue only interferes and postpones. Lead by attraction, rather than promotion.

Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20)                                                                                        &#0
160;                                 Getting together with people of common interest or mutual enterprise opens doors on a multi-faceted world of potential and possibility. Seek out individuals that inspire greatness or live in a manner you respect. Personal authority and autonomy must be tempered with compassion and sensitivity to other’s place and space. Focus on goodness.
