Just ask the Telluride Foundation or CCASE. Telluride has lots and lots of nonprofits. Some of them are dead center on the radar like Mountainfilm, Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Telluride Film Festival. Others, not so much, but nonetheless noteworthy.
The Friends of the Library was established to assist the San Miguel County Public Library District #1. The goals of the organization include promoting public awareness of library services, support for library improvement and advancement, and sponsoring cultural and educational programs & activities. Given the five stars awarded to Telluride’s Wilkinson Public Library again this year, the Friends of the Library must be doing something right (along with the Library’s outstanding director and staff.)
The Library Used Book Sale, this Friday and Saturday, June 11 – June 12, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., in the parking garage, is the Friends of Library’s only major public fundraiser. The “Friends” also includes a talented group of local quilters who just finished a beautiful quilt (their third) to be raffled off in September. This piece of fabric art is on display at the Library now. The raffle tickets go on sale at the Used Book Sale this weekend.
Since the Friends skipped their sale last summer, this one is BIG, including tons of “new” used books and lots of great CD’s & DVD’s. Prices range from $2 for hardcovers to free for mass market paperbacks.
