09 Jun Telluride-based The New Community Coalition at the Heritage Fest
The Telluride-based New Community Coaltion is hosting a booth at this weekend's Heritage Festival , June 12 – June 13.
On Saturday, June 12, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Colorado Avenue is closed for the festivities. TNCC's booth highlights a very important technological advancement in electricity transmission born right here in town: alternating current. In the late 1800's, the precious metal mines in Telluride were booming, but light, air, and water needed in the mines were provided by direct current generators that burned wood. The hillsides around Telluride were cleared and there was no sustainable source for the generators.
Nikola Tesla and L.L. Nunn are key figures in the transformation of electricity to the convenient and ubiquitous force we use every day without thinking.
The New Community Coalition also has displays and information about renewable energy, high output low energy light bulbs, and much more.
