30 Mar Melodians at Telluride’s Opera House, 3/31
(editor's note: The Melodians were originally scheduled to perform at the Opera House on January 2, 2010. That concert was canceled because of weather. Lucky us: The Melodians will now play Telluride Wednesday, March 31, 8:00 pm)
It's strictly ballroom at Telluride's historic Sheridan Opera House. The holiday dancethon continues into the New Year with The Melodians, the Jamaican Rocksteady band. Showtime for the seats-out concert is March 31, 8:00 pm.
The Melodians came together in Greenwich Town, Kingston in the mid-1960s, at almost exactly the same time the driving rhythms of ska were abandoned in favor of the slower, more soulful Rocksteady. A few groups rose to notoriety in the new genre, but none were more popular than The Melodians. The group cut a series of classic singles in the late 1960s/early 1970s, including "Rivers of Babylon" and "Sweet Sensation."
Still going strong, the Melodians are in the process of completing a new album with producer, Willie Lindo slated to be released on the Universal Music Group Label.
