Vernal Equinox and the Creative Spark of Spring

Michelangelo-creation-adam- On March 20th, at 11:32 a.m. MDT, the Sun enters the cardinal fire-sign of Aries and the emerging season of spring begins. We experience a day of equal light and dark, a brief 24 hours of celestial balance and cosmic equilibrium. We are entering the season of increasing light, planting and growth. It’s a time when we instinctively feel renewal and rebirth, intuit the awakening of our Mother Earth and are ready to explore, discover and go forth.

I always think of Michaelangelo’s painting The Creation of Adam this time of year. Mutable Pisces – the numinous, invisible and divine – gives way to primal Aries – the creative spark of selfhood. The gestation period is over. The amniotic waters of winter have broken. Man is born anew.

Here on Wrights Mesa, the snow has melted. Sprigs of grass are transforming the landscape from burnished golds to shades of green. Bald eagles perch in naked cottonwoods, prairie dogs romp and bluebirds swoop. The wind today is coming in gusts, and the skies are restless. God is handing the baton to Life.

Aries
(Mar. 21-Apr.19)
Another revolution around the Sun and we come to the point of Vernal Equinox, the first day of spring and the beginning of your personal solar year. Expect to transform your perceptual realities and the way in which you process information and experience. Prune the bush and focus on career goals and achievement in general. Perseverance furthers.

Taurus
(Apr. 20-May 20)
As spring begins, take time out for quiet contemplation and soulful meditation. Check in with spirit and explore the invisible realms of the mystical and miraculous. Let go of expectations and accept what is. Release fear and cultivate faith. Self-nurture via rest and relaxation, and don’t forget to pray. Request divine assistance and do that inner work.

Gemini

As Mars moves forward in Leo and the Sun moves into Aries, fire is in the air. Plenty of excitement fans the flames of intellectual curiosity and artistic creativity. Leo
(July 23-Aug.22)
With Mars now moving direct in Leo, dust the shelves and make room for new projects and ideas. Remove clutter and discard refuse. It’s time for spring-cleaning and everything that goes with it. Focus on progress rather than perfection and simply do your best. Relieve tension via exercise and exploration. Take a trip to a nearby sanctuary, museum or library. Enjoy!

Virgo
(Aug. 23-Sep.22)
Take a good look at finances and financial commitments. Are you in over your head or feeling desperate regarding money, income and paying the bills? Or is it about investing what you have? Refrain from impulse and cultivate gratitude. The key is in balancing those equations and coming up with practical, realistic solutions that work. Take your time.

Take it all in and know you have everything you need to be happy, healthy and wise. Look at the big picture but focus on what’s right in front of you. It’s time to prune the bush and water your garden. Accept responsibility for you.

Capricorn (Dec. 21-Jan. 19)
A cardinal T-square on Vernal Equinox delivers a solar year of great opportunity and growth. Challenges and choices in personal agendas and professional arenas abound. Are you ready and willing to step up or step down regarding career and responsibility? Answers to questions of authority and autonomy lead the way. Balance equations and take it slow.

As you begin a two-year period of restructure regarding the way you think about and perceive the world, consider exploring it. Partners motivate and encourage. Get busy!

Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
As the Sun moves from Pisces in to Aries and winter ends, shed the skin and shake off the dust, it’s time to go forth! Self-care, self-love and self-knowledge fuel the fires and provide sustenance for the jobs and responsibilities you’re ready to acquire. Do what you love and love what you do. The proof is in the pudding – use a recipe you know tastes great.
