Susie X. Billings is one of the fine artists in the muscular stable of the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art. She is also a regular teacher at the Ah Haa School for the Arts, where she is offering an exclusive (only 8 participants/workshop) workshop in an exotic location: Billings’ Zacatitos studio located in the coastal region northeast of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, on the east cape of the southern Baja peninsula.
“Learning to see with a fresh eye is the foundation of all art,” said the artist. “Because we are in a new environment when we travel, we tend to pay closer attention to our immediate surroundings: new colors, forms, compositions and light conspire to inspire. We journal daily to collect our visual ideas, sort of like a field scientist collecting data. Journaling is also a way to release our creative genie and get the process rolling. Back in the studio, we use these ideas to build bigger paintings.”
The final night of the artistic adventure is spent in the beautiful historic town of San Jose del Cabo to allow participants some time to absorb the culture, shops, and art of southern Baja.
