They all get their 15 minutes of fame: Telluride legends and forgotten characters resurrected: prostitutes, skiers, miners and donkeys in “Inaccurate Reenactments, ” a musical comedy commissioned by the Telluride Historical Museum and created by Sasha Cucciniello and her merry band of SquidShow Theatre thespians.
“Inaccurate Reenactments” opened in Telluride in December to packed houses and hosannahs. The FREE encore performance is Thursday, January 28, at Telluride’s historic Sheridan Opera House. Showtime is 8 p.m.
Vicki Eidsmo, a Telluride native, was among the 70 guests who gathered at the Museum to see the play. “I laughed until I cried,” said Eidsmo about the potrayal of rivalries between Italian and Finnish children over the presumed ownership of stray donkeys. “The actors hit upon exactly the kinds of stories my parents would tell about those early days.”
“Feedback was overwhelming,” said the Museum’s executive director Lauren Bloemsma. “We reached for a younger demographic, but came up with an audience that also included Museum members and long-time locals, not all of whom knew what thrills and spills they were in for.”
