06 Dec This week at the Library: wild horses and western music
The devil is definitely in the details. Monday, December 7, 6 p.m., The Telluride Advocacy Coalition in collaboration with The Wilkinson Public LIbrary presents an epic documentary by filmmaker James Kleinert: "Horses of Disappointment Valley." Join Kleinert to explore the plight of America’s wild horses and the rapidly deteriorating condition of the wildly beautiful public lands of the American West. Through interviews with scientific experts, ranchers, historians, wild horse owners, animal rights activists, environmentalists, superstars, uranium prospectors, and other colorful characters, the filmmaker examines the origins and effects of recent legislation clearing the way for the slaughter and removal of wild horses for oil, gas, mining, and corporate cattle grazing. "Horses" also explores the vast exploitation of pubic lands to meet a failed energy policy and offers workable alternatives.
Thursday December 10, 6 p.m., The Wilkinson Cafe presents an encore performance by Austin singer/songwriter Raina Rose, who sings and plays original material inspired by her family, travels, and adventures. FREE in the program room.
