Telluride Choral Society’s WinterSing begins 12/15

Light one candle poster In Telluride, around the world, certain songs make-up the soundtrack of December, evoking images of Jack Frost nipping at your nose. The chestnut about the reindeer  named Rudolph with the red nose is on the Telluride Choral Society's  WinterSing program, which also includes "Tambourine Carol," "Go Tell It On the Mountain," Vivaldi's "Laudamus Te" from the "Gloria," and an original composition by singer/songwriter Peter Yarrow, "Light One Candle," the theme of this year's concerts.

"This year marks my 10th WinterSing in Telluride," said longtime Choral Society member Eileen Burns. "I love getting together with close friends to rehearse every Wednesday at Christ Church.  For such a small community, Telluride is loaded with talent and I am thrilled to be a part of the magic."

"I love working hard for eight weeks with my Telluride Choral Society friends to create the musical kick- off to the holiday season in town. I even love the part where we stand out in the snow as a group getting ready to march in to perform to an excited audience. I have been a part of WinterSing for 10 years and the event holds very special memories," added Mayor Stu Fraser.

A mournful note in this otherwise joyful concert: the 2009 WinterSing marks the final Christmas choral event for departing artistic director Dr. David Lingle.

"I have grown a great deal in my musicianship in these almost eight years thanks to David," said Choral Society regular Ginny Fraser. "But I am not alone. David challenged all of us singers, raising the bar, building confidence, as this WinterSing concert will attest."

Join the Telluride Choral Society, December 15, St. Patrick's Church, 7:00 p.m., December 16, Christ Church, 7:30 p.m., or in Ridgway, December 18,  4-H Event Center, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are sold at the door:  $15 for adults and $8 for children.
