Winter Solstice and Christmas South of the Border

MexXmas It’s mid-December and I’m headed to Mexico. My husband and I rather suddenly decided to spend a couple months south of the border in Baja California – shining example of how “no major planets retrograde” can manifest action. (Mars goes retrograde on Dec. 20th, so this will change.)

I’m planning to write and post columns via WiFi along the way, but quien sabe? I know from past experience that internet service is spotty and unreliable in Baja. So, I’m posting early this week and hoping it all works out.

Feliz Navidad!

Aries (Mar. 21-Apr.19)
Ruler Mars goes retrograde on Dec. 20th and slows the pace of holiday hustle. You may feel feelings you haven’t felt for a while, especially in matters of love and romance. Be as generous of spirit as possible. Release resentments and understand your own warrior spirit. Consider the concepts of peace and war. Shine your light on goodness and be good.

Taurus
(Apr. 20-May 20)
The Sun reaches its furthest southern declination on Winter Solstice, Dec. 21st. This heralds the return of light and has been celebrated for millennia as a day of grace and gratitude. Embrace your own nature spirit in the home of heart and hearth. Light candles and kindle fires. You needn’t travel far to find joy. Be with family, laugh with love, shimmer and shine!

Gemini
(May 21-June 21)
As the Sun moves into Capricorn, feelings deepen and relationships intensify. Money, sex and death are subjects of contemplation and emotion. Enjoy the fluff and fanfare of the holidays, but know when to leave a party or end a conversation. A romantic or creative challenge portends a breakthrough. Be impeccable with your word; do your best.

Cancer
(June 22-July 22)
Planets in Capricorn tip the scales toward other people, outside influences and social life in general. Relationships are a reflecting mirror of who you are, what you think and how you feel. Utilize these reflections in positive, productive ways. What you see is what you are. If you can spot it, chances are you got it! Celebrate solstice with love and joy.

Leo (July 23-Aug.22)
Motivator Mars goes retrograde in your sign Dec. 20th and remains so until mid-March. This heralds a prolonged period of opportunity regarding personal matters and agendas. Identify everything you want to clean up, clear up or finish up, and prepare to do it. This is a time of great accomplishment if you focus on progress and perseverance. Good luck!

Virgo
(Aug. 23-Sep.22)
Winter Solstice initiates a solar month of heart-inspired action and emotion. Observe how thinking manifests feeling. Using the word against yourself or others manifests negativity. Focus on doing the next right thing and do it. Spiritual practice and self-forgiveness are big now.  A practical, methodical, realistic approach works best. Stay with it.

Libra
(Sep. 23-Oct.22)
This holiday season bestows a more sincere, austere energy and approach than years past. You recognize the value of quality, rather than quantity, and are more discerning and less effusive with your time and money. Take good care of you and lead by example. Sobriety and sincerity are allies now. Smile and laugh as you gift the world with peace and love.

Scorpio
(Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
The winter season officially begins this week on solstice, Dec. 21st. Traditionally a time of giving and gathering, you are forever touched by those who go without when others have so much. Getting involved in a charitable cause or simply sharing the wealth with those less fortunate are ways to help and heal. Your smile is magic and your hand is gold.

Sagittarius
(Nov. 23-Dec. 20)
Candles flicker and birthdays wane as the Sun leaves Sag and enters neighboring Capricorn. Your annual solar rebirth is complete on Winter Solstice and your personal new year begins. Accept total responsibility for where you are and what you’re doing as you walk the road of self-empowerment. Blaming others is a waste of time and energy. Be free.

Capricorn
(Dec. 21-Jan. 19)
Your Happy Birthday month begins on Winter Solstice, the longest night and shortest day of the year. How lovely to celebrate with festivals of light and festivities of merriment. Parties abound and libations are abundant. Follow your heart but keep your head. It’s easy to lose track of time and money, maintain schedules and leave when you need to.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Memories of Christmas past with family and friends may haunt or inspire you this week. Travel the roads of sentiment and explore your feelings. Examine situations and relationships that tend to repeat themselves. Life lessons return again and again until we learn. Be kind and gentle to yourself and compassionate with others. Give joy to the world.

Pisces
(Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
Voluptuous Venus in sagacious Sagittarius squares wild Uranus in compassionate Pisces and then sextiles both Jupiter and Neptune in Aquarius just prior to solstice. This translates as a wild ride that ends up ecstatic, romantic and downright revolutionary. Awaken to the new era, the new you and the new regime of self-love and self-care. Sweet!
