Telluride Regional Airport has been closed for construction since April, but is on schedule to reopen on November 4, 2009.
It was a major project, including removing most of the famous dip in the middle of the runway, installing new runway lights and navigation aids, widening the safety areas at both ends of the runway, and rebuilding the runway from the base up.
TIO got a tour from airport manager Rich Nuttall on Thursday, September 24. The runway looked ready for operations then, but Nuttall said runway grooving had to wait for the asphalt to cure. But the runway striping has happened, and the FAA has already flight checked the runway and approved it. The return of flight operations is just around the corner.
