15 Oct Katy Bowlby: a bird in “Cinderella” in Telluride
On Sunday, October 18, 3 p.m., Telluride's Palm Theatre presents the State Street Ballet's production of "Cinderella." The production includes about 30 young dancers from the Telluride region. A little birdie told me one of them is Katy Bowlby – playing a little bird.
Katy Bowlby is a student at Dance in the Rockies in Durango, CO, and a member of the Dance in the Rockies competition team, which competes throughout the U.S. For the past two summers, Bowlby attended Ballet West, the University of Utah's summer ballet academy. A high school junior, Bowlby plans to dance professionally. In "Cinderella," Bowlby is just one of the talented extras, but come December, she takes her rightful place as star of the show, returning to Telluride to dance the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Telluride Dance Academy's Christmas production of "The Nutcracker." Last year, the lovely young ballerina danced the Snow Queen, dazzling the crowd despite a bum ankle. Already a trooper and only 16.
