A Leo New Moon and the Courageous Quest of the Lionhearted

1 The 27º 31’ Leo New Moon @ 4:02 pm on Aug. 20th is the first lunation in quite a while that is not an eclipse. Can you feel the less stressful energy, the lessening intensity of this New Moon? Can you finally take a deep breath and know in your heart that something is “over” and you’re on the flip side of trauma and drama, headed toward health and healing?

That said, this lunation is still one of great strength and force as it is the fourth of five “supermoons” this year – which is when the Moon is at perigee (its closest approach to the Earth) and syzygy (a New or Full phase) – and gravitational pulls on tides, tectonic plates and physical bodies reach record highs.

Taking place in late Leo, we are being asked to feel our hearts, tap in to our pain, passion and pleasure, intuit our paths via heartfelt truth and follow our inner-heart wisdom as we travel the roads of happy destiny. Two of the last three eclipses were in Leo, and the other one – July 9th at 29º Cancer – was only a heartbeat away. This translates as several weeks and many Moons of fiery emotion, intense feeling and powerful experience. And it is this very emotion, feeling and experience that is now guiding us through the mists of illusion to the pathways of transformation.

As we stand on the border between Leo and Virgo, poised to take our first step on the solid ground of the zodiac’s sixth sign, the raging fires of summer are behind us. Traces of smoke remain, but the air has cleared and the sweltering temperatures have dropped. We may feel burned out or burned up, but, in all cases, we feel changed.

Also of note in this lunation is the opposition of the ongoing planetary conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius to the late Leo New Moon. This reminds us that we may have to take the road less traveled to follow our hearts, pursue our dreams and manifest our visions. It calls upon our uniqueness and different-ness, yet reminds us that we are One, that we are all in this grand scheme together, one race, one world, one kingdom, one people.  This is the quest of the lionhearted humanitarian, the brave awakener and the one willing to go it alone for the good of all concerned.  And it takes courage to be true to our hearts, to keep moving in the direction of our dharma and destiny. Good luck and may the Force be with you! Happy New Moon.

Aries (Mar. 21-Apr.19)
A fresh New Moon in late Leo initiates a lunar month of heartfelt awareness regarding the ego. Reflect upon your personal sense of self and identity within a group. Who are your friends? Do you surround yourself with people of good intention and healthy spirit? Osmosis is an evolutionary force. Notice the quality of energy in and all around you.

Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)
Dynamic “super-moon” energies call for inner awakening regarding personal emotional security issues. Home and family have been center-stage all summer, as children become parents and parents, grandparents. Lighten your grip on authority and accept what is. Trying to control other people and situations is exhausting, let go and relax. Focus on friendship.

Gemini
(May 21-June 21)
A late degree Leo New Moon highlights the triple conjunction of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius and illuminates compassionate living and higher-self being. Listen to internal dialogues and pay attention to the quality and quantity of your thoughts. Awaken to your mentality and improve the state of it. Mars promotes personal self-improvement. Do it!

Cancer
(June 22-July 22)
A myriad of late-degree planets multiply aspects and intensify the power of this week’s Leo New Moon. Venus in Cancer says sweeten the pie, calm the waters and negotiate the deal. Be as loving and pleasant as possible where others are concerned. Focus on solutions rather than problems. It’s time to take responsibility and do the work. Remain on task.

Leo
(July 23-Aug.22)
Honesty is the best policy and being generous and openhearted is the key to success. The ongoing process of healing wounds in your most important relationships continues. You are being asked to respect, honor and intuit other’s needs and wishes, but that’s almost impossible unless you communicate. Breathe deep, ask and – most important – listen.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep.22)
Taking care of “old business” is a theme this week as lunar light shines upon your personal path of healing regarding disagreements, misunderstandings and neglected relationships. Communicate how you feel and focus on compassion for yourself and others. Self-improvement is forever an ally, and there is always room for more. Be kind and gentle.

Libra
(Sep. 23-Oct.22)
You stand at an important crossroads, and the archetype of darkness – planet Pluto – points the way forward. As you look toward uncharted territory, the old maps no longer apply. Embrace the courage of the Lion and follow your heart. This old cliché is old for good reason; the truth in our hearts is a golden compass and will not lead us astray. Be brave.

Scorpio
(Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Closure on drama and chaos comes with the lunation of a New Moon and fresh lunar cycle. Continue to face and feel issues from childhood, review parental tapes and put an end to old, outworn, dysfunctional relationships and behaviors. Admit it, you’re done. The glistening promise of revitalized goals and visions awaits manifestation. Go forth.

Sagittarius
(Nov. 23-Dec. 20)
As you put the finishing touches on an extended transformative personal process – the major theme of the last several years – take a good look in the mirror. What do you see? Are you healthier and happier, living with less stress and more joy or running behind, worried about money and working overtime? Health is wealth. Do whatever it takes to get it.

Capricorn
(Dec. 21-Jan. 19)
Mysterious magician Pluto, at zero degrees Capricorn, awards you with the most precious gift of personal power, with which you can control the world. Now it’s your assignment and responsibility to wield the scepter with ultimate wisdom and keep the crown on straight. Humility is your golden ally and must be always at your right hand. Cultivate grace.

Aquarius
(Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
This is an incredibly powerful week for you; pay tip-top attention to the people, information, events and experiences that come your way. For several months now, messages about health and healing have been paramount. It’s imperative you listen and adapt your lifestyle accordingly. Otherwise, the castle crumbles and the kingdom dissolves. Do the work.

Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
Revolutionary Uranus in late Pisces square dances in a powerful mutable grand cross as the Sun and Moon form the conjunction of a fresh New Moon. Listen to your intuition, cultivate compassion and loving-kindness as you walk your talk and review the past. Remain humble, but cultivate self-respect. Give from the heart and expect nothing in return.
