04 Jul Men Without Rhythm back in Telluride 4th of July Parade After Epic World Tour
by Eileen Burns
Telluride’s Main Street will be a flurry of floats, bands, buggies, bikes, trucks and talent this 4th of July, and after taking a year hiatus to tour the world, (just kidding) the crowd favorite, Men Without Rhythm are back!!!!! No one knows their theme….it is a well kept secret until they appear on the streets with music blasting and dancing (kinda). Check out the photo from three years ago when 30 plus men transformed into “Cheeseyriders” took to the streets on Fisher Price Mini Harley Davidson motorcycles. They tore it up after cruising, dancing and strutting to the music of Born to be Wild, We Will Rock You and Bad to the Bone.
This year’s parade kicks off with local talent Mollie Fast’s rendition of the National Anthem, followed by the inspection of the troops and the breathtaking fly over of F16s sent all the way from Colorado Springs. Aside from Men Without Rhythm, many more favorites will be returning this year, including the Harleys, Troop Veterans, Saddle Bags, Whistlers, Banner Brigade – featuring babies, kids, trikes, bikes, wagons and the adorable pet parade. Not to be missed this year is a salute to the 10th Mountain Division, West Wind Pipe Band, Montrose Community Band and Super Smurf Extravaganza.
Long time local and horseman Roudy Roudabush will be the grand marshal and Margie White, Rick Houston and Lawrence Giles will be on the tough decision making judging panel. Although long time judge and part time local General Schwartzkopf will not be in attendance, the parade is being dedicated in his honor.
