Telluride’s Sheridan Opera House will host rising folk star Emma Hill and her Gentleman Callers tonight, Saturday July 18th at at 7pm. Hill was born in a small Alaskan village with virtually no cultural influences. For music she turned to her parents’ limited collection of folk and rock. Early on Hill knew she wanted to sing and write: her first song was written in Telluride at the tender age of eight. Today, Hill’s beautiful voice knows no boundaries and her songwriting ranges from fresh folk to rootsie blues. Out of high school Hill moved to Anchorage and sang with the group Blackbird Productions and then in the folk duo Pennies and Patches. From there, Hill moved to Portland, Oregon and pursued a solo career releasing “Just Me” which received a lot of play on college and alternative radio, and hit #8 on KRUA Anchorage’s album chart. Her latest release,”Clumsy Seduction,” is climbing the charts with the help of her family owned and operated record label, Kuskokwim. The Gentleman Callers joined Emma in February for her summer national tour, which wraps up in Bend, Oregan at the end of the month.
Tonight’s concert is a fundraiser for Telluride’s community owned and operated radio station KOTO, who will receive 25% of the proceeds. Tickets are on sale at the Sheridan Opera House, $10 in advance or $12 at the door.
