DSC01295 “Tibetan Buddhists, shamans around the world, and other spiritual practitioners observe New and Full Moons as windows or portals in time/space, where we can more easily see beyond the constraints of material reality. Veils part, clouds part, new realities are glimpsed as our awareness of higher dimensions expands. The days immediately before a New or Full Moon are especially potent for releasing the physical, emotional and mental blockages that prevent us from perceiving the greater truth of our being. The peak of this Full Moon coincides with Saga Dawa, the Tibetan celebration of the birth, enlightenment and passage of the Buddha, one of many great figures who taught that each of us is a Buddha, a Christ, an expression of the Tao, the Great Spirit, the Cosmos.”
          — Stephanie Austin, The Mountain Astrologer, June/July 2009

As an astrologer, I often wonder whether or not I perceive the world as “cosmic” because I want to. My Mother and Grandmother introduced me to this divine science as a young girl, and it stuck. Over the years, I have been astounded, humbled and awed by the way celestial events coincide with, resonate to and actually constellate what I’m experiencing here on Earth.

The Gemini New Moon on May 24th took place at the same time Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune converged @ 26º Aquarius, ushering in an era of New Age communication, perception and exploration of alternative, spiritual, global and galactic potential and possibilities. It’s all about awareness and awakening, doing it different and traveling an enlightened path. We are being asked to open old wounds and heal them with compassion and loving kindness, recognize the unity in diversity and accept the ultimate reality and comfort of universal brotherhood and sisterhood.

Everywhere I looked, I could see it happening. From Mountain Film in Telluride to Obama’s world stage to my own back yard and daily round, I was – and continue to be – blasted with themes of wounding and healing, international connectedness and finding common ground amongst radically diverse systems of belief, economy and culture. We are being asked to recognize that there simply are no “others.”

Recently I was given a book entitled Comfortable With Uncertainty, written by Pema Chodron, an American Buddhist nun. It’s all about exactly what’s going on for me today – head, heart, body and soul – and, of course synchronistically, what’s being constellated in the cosmos. I’m amazed today at how the Universe delivers exactly what I need, when I need it. And discovering that this week’s Full Moon coincides with Saga Dawa – the Tibetan celebration of the Buddha – after I have just opened my heart to the Buddha’s path, puts icing on an already delightful, delicious cake. Light the candles and dance in starlight, what can I say? It’s cosmic!
