14 May Sheridan Arts Foundation presents “The Audition” May 15
(editor's note: We did get the video uploaded, finally, so take another look.)
The play's not the thing. "The Audition" is simply a vehicle for a talented group of Telluride teens. Watching them in rehearsal, it was obvious how much they love and respect their longtime director, Jen Julia, and how much they enjoy one another and strutting their stuff on the boards.
"Closing night of Grease, the kids said, 'We want more,' and so I began searching scripts that met the following criteria: Kids would play kids as they had in 'Grease,' and get to work with material with some dramatic grit, something they could sink their teeth into," explained Jen.
After finding "The Audition" by Don Zolidis – a play about a group of teenagers that chronicles their journey through the highs and lows of auditioning for a high school musical – Jen added two scenes and three monologues to accommodate all 18 of her students wanting to participate.
"We will perform this play without a set. The kids are wearing their own clothes for costumes. We had only six rehearsals. 'The Audition' is about raw talent and acting plain and simple, nothing else, but more than enough."
The cast of "The Audition" includes some of the best and brightest young stars in town: Austin Altman, Brittany Altman, Emma Anderson, Alexis Cruzzavala, Charlotte Delpit, Xanthe Demas, Jonas Fahnestock, Keegan Fairfield, Nina Gerona, Emma Gross, Willy Hess, Walker Hollrah, Amy Knight, Devin McCarthy, Mia McLaughlin, Erin Thompson, Max Walker-Silverman, Celine Wright.
