Illumination and Manifestation: the May 8th Taurus/Scorpio Full Moon

DSC00434 Full Moons are times of illumination, fruition and manifestation. Unlike new Moons, which occur when the Sun and Moon are exactly aligned – in the same sign, at the same zodiac degree – full Moons take place when the Sun is exactly opposite the Moon and they are in opposite zodiac signs.

The conjunction aspect of a new Moon is a point of energy collection, focus and concentration, [the last new Moon took place on April 24th @ 05º03' Taurus], a time when we feel the powerful imperative of a new beginning, a beginning coming from the inside out. It’s a time to be "in synch" and at one with the Universe – we are somehow connected to and a piece of the greater collective whole. Something cosmic is in the air – a feeling of innocence and hope, initiation and rebirth – and I always feel instinctively optimistic at new Moon times, as if I am on the brink of a new precipice, facing unknown opportunity and embarking upon fresh territory.

At full Moons, I feel less innocent, more cautious, weathered and wise. The opposition aspect in astrology is classically characterized as “a hard aspect” – an aspect that requires adaptation and skill, balance and cooperation. Energy comes from outside of self – rather than inside, as during new Moons – and it is energy that must be dealt with, considered, negotiated, integrated and ultimately accepted. People, places, situations and things manifest results and we are presented with conditions. Decisions are made and projects come to fruition. We see the consequences of our actions and choices.

On May 8th at 10:02 pm MDT the Moon opposes the Taurus Sun at 18º40’ Scorpio. Seeds – whether literal or metaphorical – planted at the time of the Taurus New Moon two weeks ago are starting to bear fruit. Themes of money and income, material security, investment partnership and joint venture projects come to light. Our national and world economy – which has been making headlines for months – becomes an even bigger issue as we realize the amplified extent of our human social and financial interconnectedness. The practicality [Taurus] of legalizing and taxing [Scorpio] marijuana [Taurus/Scorpio] as a means of economic recovery [Taurus/Scorpio] comes to light, and is thrown on the proverbial table for all to see and examine. The fiscal responsibility and effectiveness of the "War on Drugs" and the unrealistic promotion of premarital abstinence as a means of birth control are also Taurus/Scorpio subjects set forth and in the limelight. Sex and sexuality, relationship intimacy, matters of privacy, drugs and covert or clandestine activities are also illuminated.

Trust issues are paramount and it’s time to put our cards and coins on the table. Taurus/Scorpio asks us to face our greatest desires and deepest fears, identify what we truly value and let go of what no longer works or serves our higher good. It's about being practical, realistic, materially astute and psychologically in tune. It's where the physical meets the metaphysical and we evolve – spiritually, physically and emotionally. Good luck and may the calm, down-to-earth power of the Bull and the mysterious magic of the Scorpion be with you!

Aries
(Mar. 21-Apr.19)
The Scorpio/Taurus full Moon is arguably the most sensual lunation of the year. The earthy Bull loves the tactile and luscious while the Scorpion lives on passion and sensation. Intensity is the name of the game as Mars and Venus in Aries fuel fires of desire and heat up already hot issues of relationship and romance. Get out of Dodge and take time for yourself.

Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)
This week’s full Moon brings issues of sharing and pairing to a head as lunar light illuminates personally intense emotions and feelings regarding others. Practice patience and take it easy. Rushing to judgment or making accusations without sufficient evidence is not advised. Mercury now retrograde favors research and review. Wait to jump.

Gemini
(May 21-June 21)
Ruler Mercury goes retrograde in early Gemini and then quickly moves back in to neighboring Taurus. Prepare for a three-week period of review and reassessment regarding your personal spiritual health and wealth. Meditation, relaxation and prayer are powerful allies now. Be your own best friend and find time to commune with and embrace Mother Nature.

Cancer
(June 22-July 22)
The Taurus/Scorpio lunation is one of yearly enlightenment and inspiration for Moonchildren. Heartfelt desires fuel idealistic dreams in dances of visualization and co-creation. Pay attention to feelings and follow your instincts. Dabble with paint, design projects, dig in the earth, smell the roses and touch the sky. Release fear and cultivate faith.

Leo
(July 23-Aug.22)
Yin/yang planets Venus and Mars continue to dance and dive in fiery Aries this week, fanning flames of idealistic hope and futuristic vision. Remain positive and keep your eyes on the prize. Hard work and patience pay off, even more so if it’s done happily and willingly. Authority figures and issues of control emerge. Let go of ego and focus on progress.

Virgo
(Aug. 23-Sep.22)
Transiting Saturn in Virgo trines and sextiles the full Moon lunar axis, making this lunation one of relative support and harmony for the Virgin. Sacrifice and self-discipline pay off as financial worries and concerns lessen. Be practical and realistic in face of change. Mercury retrograde says work on fixing existing problems rather than creating new ones.

Libra
(Sep. 23-Oct.22)
Personal talents and abilities are highlighted as lunar light shines upon what you can do, create and manifest. Work diligently on projects you’ve already started and focus attention on cleaning up messes. Joint ventures and shared finances must be addressed. A sacrifice of sorts may be necessary to keep the boat afloat. Stay on task and keep the faith.

Scorpio
(Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
The Moon comes to fruition in your sign and surrounds you with light. Illuminate both desire and fear as you illuminate the shifting shapes and morphing magic of life. Stability, patience and grace are allies as you move through time, both past and present. Recommit to realistic goals and restructure paths of progress. Hang out with success and do good work.

Sagittarius
(Nov. 23-Dec. 20)
Feelings of disharmony or being out-of-synch with the cosmos may pop up or vaguely plague you as lunar energy reminds you that the twisting, turning road of life is filled with questions and mystery. Trust your angels and look for the signs. Pay attention to omens, follow natural laws, eat right, exercise daily, maintain sobriety and cultivate humility. Right!

Capricorn
(Dec. 21-Jan. 19)
This week’s Taurus/Scorpio full Moon supports and encourages heartfelt agendas and inspired goals, but Mercury retrograde favors those already established or identified. Follow your road of lifelong passions and childhood dreams to a place of inner illumination. Who are you really? What do you truly value? It’s all about honest authenticity now. Be you.

Aquarius
(Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Lunar light illuminates issues of domestic and professional roles and responsibilities, both pushing you forward and pulling you back. Questions and doubts about performance and achievement must be met with good old-fashioned hard work and daily diligence. Financial restructure continues. Maintain focus and simply do the best you can.

Pisces
(Feb. 19-Mar. 20)
Information regarding someone or something you see daily may change the way you see the world at large. Improve communication skills by listening carefully and refraining from chatter or gossip. Notice the power of silence and pay attention to inner voices. Fly above your life and look at it from a higher perspective. What do you see?
