Hey, Telluride: Get ready to shake your tail feathers to a Latin beat when 2009 Grammy-nominated Grupo Fantasma – Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, "Sonidos Gold" – performs twice this week in Telluride/Mountain Village and at a special kids-only set at the school.
Grupo's first gig is Thursday, March 12, when, thanks to Paul Machado and the Telluride Jazz Celebration, the band funkifies the Telluride Medical Center's fabulous fundraiser, the F.E.A.S.T. (Fund for Expanding and Supporting Telluride's Medical Center), with after dinner dancing. (For last minute tickets, call the director of philanthropy, Kate Wadley, at 970-729-1375.
Friday, March 13, is a lucky day for the kids when the Telluride Society for Jazz brings Grupo, the 10-piece jazz/rock/funk freight train of a Latin band to light up the school, 2:20 – 3:15, as part of the Jazz Celebration's successful Artists in The School program.
Friday night, Grupo makes its final appearance at the historic Sheridan Opera House, with a seats-out performance for a floor-burning, hip shaking all-night groovefest.
