No jive. No spin. The Spinners were fixtures in the heyday of the music industry, one of the greatest soul groups of the era (1970s/1980s) before “download” stole the show.
A veritable hit machine, The Spinners' lush silky sound, clam tight harmonies, and funky underpinnings defined Philly Soul – although the group’s roots lay in Detroit and doo-wop.
The Spinners are still around, thrilling cross-generational crowds by singing the hits that made the group famous, among them: “Mighty Love,” “Then Came You,” “I’ll Be Around,” “One Of A Kind (Love Affair),” “Games People Play,” “Could It Be,” “Working My Way Back to You,” “Rubberband Man,” “Then Came You.”
Original band members Bobbie Smith and Henry Fambrough are in town to perform New Year’s Eve at the historic Sheridan Opera House. Charlton Washington, high tenor Harold “Spike” DeLeon and a soulful, funky 5-piece band join the two founders to boogie down.
For tickets and details, contact the Opera House at 970-728-6363.
