Telluride in Autumn

Susan and I do a fair amount of travel out of Telluride, both for family visits (as in this case) and for the opportunity to see some different country or another culture. On our way to see daughter Kimm and family in Bellevue, Washington along with a too brief stop in Mosier, Oregon to spend a night with good friend Arlene Burns, we couldn’t help taking a "short cut" over Hastings Mesa.

Hastings is one of my favorite areas in the whole Telluride region, and in Autumn it is like being in a brand new world. The contrast among the multi-colored aspens, the dark of the evergreens, and the intense blue of the Colorado sky is a visual delight. I’ve seen and been thrilled by the colors in Fall in New England and parts of the Midwest, but there is something about the intensity and the brevity of a Telluride Autumn that lifts my heart: if you haven’t seen Telluride in Autumn, you don’t know Telluride.
