An sublime evening of music by the world’s most famous composer J.S. Bach, performed by Grammy Award winning and internationally acclaimed musicians!

Internationally acclaimed violinist Ben Breen and Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey will perform works for solo violin and cello by J.S Bach in the historic Sheridan Opera House on February 4, 7pm. The concert is presented by Telluride Chamber Music. The evening will offer the chance for the audience to be guided by Breen and Bailey through these stunning compositions, as they highlight the history of the works, interweaved with stories of their own personal experiences as musicians.

Johann Sebastian Bach lived from 1685 – 1750 and was one of history’s most prolific composers, creating more than 1000 pieces during his lifetime (while also holding down a full time job and fathering 20 children!). Nearly 300 years after his death Bach is a household name and considered one of the greatest composers of all time. From Mozart and Beethoven to The Beatles, Eminem and Lady Gaga, he has inspired countless musicians who followed him, while his music permeates modern culture often without us even realizing its influence. The Partitas for violin and Suites and Preludes for cello that Breen and Bailey will perform are some of the composer’s most beautiful works.

Recognized for his “exceptional purity of tone” and “beguiling sensitivity” by the Strad magazine, Ben Breen’s international acclaim has seen him give recitals at Carnegie Hall and appear both as soloist with orchestras, in recital, and as chamber musician all over the world. Alongside his exceptional musicianship, Breen is also a part-time Telluride resident and expert skier – you might catch him whizzing down Kant Mak M (his go-to trail) before his concert appearance!

A first-time visitor to Telluride, Zuill Bailey is widely considered one of the premiere cellists in the world. He is a Grammy Award-winning soloist, recitalist, artistic director and teacher whose rare combination of celebrated artistry, technical wizardry and engaging personality has made him one of the most sought after and active cellists today.

Breen and Bailey have collaborated in performances for many years, often alongside Awadagin Pratt, who also appeared for Telluride Chamber Music back in August to much acclaim.

Bach, Breen and Bailey is a combination not to be missed. In the historic setting of the Sheridan Opera House, this concert experience promises to be very very special for new and dedicated classical music listeners alike.
